Bobby Dalbec represents the Red Sox on MLB Pipeline’s 2021 All-Rookie team

Bobby Dalbec has been terrible in the postseason, but he’s a huge reason the Red Sox got there at all.

The rookie first baseman, who made his debut in September 2020, hit 25 home runs in the regular season, third-most among rookies.

He got off to a snail’s pace in the first half, but absolutely exploded after the All-Star break. In the first half, he had a .219/.264/.409 line, .673 OPS, and 10 home runs in 72 games. In the second, he slashed .269/.344/.611 with a .955 OPS, and 15 home runs in 61 games.

Dalbec played the entirety of the first two postseason games and went 0-for-4 in both, so he’s been relegated to the bench ever since. Coming in as a late-game pinch-hitter, he’s still hitless, which likely means he won’t get much playing time against the potent Astros lineup in the ALCS.
