Nick Pivetta deserves a boatload of runs from his teammates after what happened in his last start. He went 5 1/3 innings against the Yankees and only allowed one earned run on three hits with seven strikeouts, but the Sox lost 3-5.

On the whole, Pivetta has a 4.52 ERA in 29 starts this season, but he’s rebounded from a rough  July and August. He has allowed one earned run in two of his three starts this month after allowing four or more earned runs in six of 10 starts between July and August. Pivetta’s ability to minimize walks this month has helped; he has walked only one of 56 batters he’s faced in his three September starts so far.

Ironically, his only bad start of the month was against the Orioles, in which he gave up two home runs, three earned runs, and did not make it out of the fourth innings. He has a 4.15 ERA over four starts against the Orioles this season, and their batters are slashing a respectable .247/.322/.481 with a .804 OPS against him.
