While the New York Yankees have a tough schedule against the Rays and Blue Jays coming up, the Boston Red Sox are beginning their final stretch against some bad teams, starting with the hapless Baltimore Orioles. Perfect time to pad the win column and rise in the Wild Card standings.

Chris Sale is making his much-needed return once again, this time from the COVID-related IL. He’ll kick off the series opener on Friday night, hopefully by striking out 20 or more Orioles.

Red Sox vs Orioles Odds Today

The moneyline is almost laughable, which actually makes me nervous for this game. The Red Sox are favored at -370 (bet $370 to win $100) while the Orioles are +275 (bet $100 to win $275).

The spread has Baltimore +2.5 at -105 (bet $105 to win $100) and Boston -2.5 at -120 (bet $120 to win $100).

If you’re into betting on the total number of runs, the over/under for tonight’s series opener is 9.5. The over is -116 (bet $116 to win $100) and the under is -105 (bet $105 to win $100).

Red Sox Pitcher Today: Chris Sale

Straight from the COVID-IL, Chris Sale will once again pitch against the Orioles instead of making a rehab start. It’s extremely sad for the O’s that this is how they get treated, but also very fun to watch Sale pump in the strikes.

Sale has a 2.52 ERA over five games since making his return from Tommy John in early August. His first start in two years was also against the Orioles, five innings of two-run ball with eight strikeouts and no walks. Overall, he’s struck out 30 batters over 25 innings and only issued six walks.

Since five starts are a small sample size, let’s take a look at Sale’s career against the O’s. Over 21 games (15 starts), he has a 2.63 ERA and 1.073 WHIP. He’s struck out an astounding 141 batters over 96 innings. Orioles lineups have slashed .218/.283/.345 with a .627 OPS against him, if you can call that slashing.
