The Red Sox embarrassed themselves in the Bronx on Tuesday, dropping two games in one day to their biggest rivals.

Less than two months ago, the Red Sox had a 10 1/2-game lead on the Yankees, and as of Tuesday night’s loss, they are now tied. According to ESPN, this is the third-largest deficit either team has erased in the history of a rivalry that is over a century old. Love to see our favorite team making history!

Red Sox vs Yankees Odds Today

Unsurprisingly, the Yankees are favored to win Wednesday’s series finale, at -125 on the moneyline (bet $125 to win $100), while the Sox are +100 (bet $100 to win $100).

The spread has New York at +1.5 at -190 (bet $190 to win $100) and Boston at -1.5 at +160 (bet $100 to win $160).

If you’re into betting the total number of runs, the over/under is 10.5. It’s +100 on the over (bet $100 to win $100) and -125 on the under (bet $125 to win $100).

Red Sox Pitcher Today: Nick Pivetta

Nick Pivetta and Andrew Heaney are on the mound to close this series out.

Pivetta has a 4.20 ERA and is coming off two solid back-to-back starts against the Orioles and Blue Jays, in which he went six innings twice and only allowed one earned run total.

Since July 4, Pivetta has a 3.69 ERA over seven starts. He has not faced the Yankees yet this season, and in fact, has only pitched against them once in his five-year career. Over two innings of work on August 6, 2020, he allowed two earned runs on two hits, including a home run. The Phillies traded him to the Red Sox later that month.

Andrew Heaney has a 5.78 ERA overall this season, but he has a 9.00 ERA in his first three starts for the Yankees after the Angels traded him at the deadline. He’s allowed 15 earned runs in 15 innings of work, with 18 strikeouts and six walks. Most recently, he was the starter for the Field of Dreams game and got rocked by the White Sox batters. Hopefully, the Red Sox can do the same.

Red Sox vs Yankees Prediction Today

Heaney is not an effective pitcher, but the Red Sox also have not been able to capitalize on any of the freebies opposing arms have been serving up to them on silver platters recently.

Still picking the Sox to win, though, because that hometown bias runs deep.
