Tyreque Reed and Joe Davis were promoted in the Red Sox system

The Boston Red Sox have seen a lot of moves recently. Obviously the big headline is that Jarren Duran is going to be making his Major League debut. Meanwhile, Tanner Houck is set to be back with the big league club as well. They aren’t the only two seeing promotions though. Two of the most deserving prospects that moved up a level are Tyreque Reed and Joe Davis.

Both first basemen, Reed is going from Advanced-A to Double-A. Meanwhile, Davis is going from Full-A to Advanced-A. Reed will be taking over first for Triston Casas in Portland, who is going to the Olympics. Obviously that means that Davis is taking over for Reed in Greenville.

It’s hard to imagine two more deserving prospects at the moment. In fact, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve mentioned in the Prospect Watch and on Twitter that these two needed new challenges.

Reed is in his first year with the Red Sox organization (fourth year in the minors), and he’s putting up career-numbers. The right-handed hitter has a .296/.405/.587 slash line. He’s already hit eight doubles, one triple, and 14 home runs. That’s just four off his career-high of 18 (set in both 2018 and 2019). Meanwhile, Reed has 50 RBI and 40 runs scored, both 17 off his career-best in those categories. He’s even tied a career-high with four steals just to prove how good of a year he’s having.

It looks like we’ll be seeing new career-marks in plenty of stats for the 24-year-old.

More from Red Sox Prospects

Reed has shown plenty of clutch-hitting. He’s a power bat with insane run production and good contact grades. The fact that he has 50 RBI in 48 games is one of the more wild stats you’ll see at the moment.

Then there’s Davis. He’s slashing .333/.384/.577 in 2021, his second year in the minors (both with the Red Sox). The right-handed hitter has already set new marks in just about every category. He has 16 doubles and 10 home runs, to go along with 49 RBI and 32 runs scored.

Davis is also a power bat with crazy run production and good contact grades. The 24-year-old is right behind Reed in that RBI category, with 49 in 48 games.

Both players are well-over-due for a promotion. They’ve both shown that they have been ready for a new challenge and it’s going to be exciting to see how they handle it. If I had to bet though, both will be just fine. It’s hard to look at the stats and think otherwise.

Next. Xander Bogaerts is unbelievably underrated. dark

Tyreque Reed and Joe Davis did not come into 2021 with the most fanfare in the Red Sox MiLB system. However, massive seasons so far should have put them on a few more maps. Now playing at higher levels, hopefully they start getting the recognition they deserve.
