The Red Sox should be honored to celebrate their championship at the White House. Regardless of people’s political views, it’s about respect of the invite.
Every year after a team wins a championship they are invited to the White House. The President usually holds a press conference and receives a jersey from the team. However, with President Trump comes controversy when teams visit the White House for reasons that won’t be discussed in this article. The Boston Red Sox have been invited and they’ve accepted the invite.
The Red Sox know it’s all about respecting the office of the President when he invites you by attending regardless of any political beliefs. The team is celebrating a championship, the fourth the franchise has won since 2004.
The difference between the Red Sox and lots of other championship teams that have won is that they have class. President Trump didn’t invite other championship teams because not enough players would be attending. I’m sure there will be some players who can’t make it but it will be most of the team, I’m sure.
Boston won 108 games before moving on to beat the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers in the postseason. They were so humble about it, from the first pitch to the final out. That’s what makes this team likable and sets the example for future championship teams in sports.
Alex Cora is going to go regardless of what the President said about Puerto Rico. Cora respects the office and will hold his head up high. Cora will represent his Country the right way as he told reporters today according to Chris Cotillo.
"“I’m gonna use my platform the right way. I’m not gonna embarrass anybody. Actually, I’m gonna represent 4 million people from back home the right way when we go there.”"
He understands that is an honor to be invited to the White House after a championship. There are players on that team from all parts of the world but they all come together and play together as a team. They’ll use the platform the right way. The team can all respect their native countries while also celebrating a championship.
I wish all teams looked at it the way Cora does with his team. But their political views get in the way with other teams which is why sports and politics don’t go well together at all. I can’t stand it when a sports radio station talks more about politics than sports, it drives me crazy.
Same with going to the White House. It’s about winning a championship with your team. Talk about the politics of it on your own time.
