The Red Sox crushed the Yankees 16-1 in Game 3. They need to turn the page quickly though and look ahead to Game 4 tonight in New York.
The Boston Red Sox came to play last night in Game 3 of the ALDS. They set the tone early scoring first and routed the Yankees 16-1 in New York.
What didn’t help New York was starting pitcher Luis Severino, who didn’t know what time the game started and didn’t get to his warm-up throws until 7:30. First pitch was 7:42. That is not something you want in a playoff game.
But for the Sox, everything went right. Nathan Eovaldi pitched lights out, Brock Holt hit for the cycle, and Boston handed their rivals the biggest blowout loss in Yankees postseason history.
Now all eyes are on Rick Porcello as they need to turn the page quickly for Game 4 tonight.
CC Sabathia is pitching for New York and is 10-6 in the postseason. Porcello hasn’t won a postseason game yet but that could change tonight. With Holt having a great game last night, I’d expect he could be in the lineup tonight. Every time Holt has pinch-hit for someone this season he either gets a hit or hits a home run. Very rarely did he strikeout.
Everyone on the Red Sox got a hit last night which is really what they needed. Expect the same tonight with Sabathia on the mound. Mookie Betts has 12 hits against Sabathia with three RBI’s, an average of .429, and OPS of 1.050. Steve Pearce also has good numbers against Sabathia. In 38 at-bats, he has 12 hits, three home runs, five RBI’s, an average of.316, and OPS of .997. Catcher Sandy Leon also has pretty decent numbers against Sabathia. Leon has five RBI’s in 10 at-bats, one home run, an average of .300 and OPS of 1.017. Finally, Ian Kinsler has two home runs against Sabathia and 11 hits in 41 at-bats. His average is .268 and OPS of .757.

On the other side, Porcello has some average numbers against the Yankee hitters. Giancarlo Stanton has eight at-bats against Porcello and has three hits, five RBI’s, an average of .375 and OPS of 1.125. Aaron Judge has had 16 at-bats and four hits, one home run three RBI’s, an average of .250 with an OPS of .868 against Porcello. Didi Gregorius hasn’t had great luck against Porcello. In 31 at-bats, he’s had only five hits, two home runs, two RBI’s, and six strikeouts. His average is .161 an OPS of .612.
In five career postseason starts facing elimination, Sabathia is 2-2 with a 3.76 ERA.
The Red Sox have everything in their favor to win this game tonight. Starting with the manager, Alex Cora seems to just know what he’s doing while Aaron Bonne can’t seem to get his starting pitcher to know what time the game starts.
Another thing, the Red Sox are way more humble. I don’t think anyone was playing ‘Dirty Water’ last night walking past the Yankee clubhouse. What Judge did on Saturday night playing ‘New York, New York’ walking past the Red Sox clubhouse was really dumb. It was just one game, they didn’t win the series. Then the Sox went to New York and silenced the crowd and the Yankee bats quickly in Game 3, expect the same in Game 4.
