As the anniversary of the 2013 World Series rolls around, let’s take a look back at that special Red Sox season that will never be forgotten
As many already know, on April 15, 2013, two home-made bombs went off at the Boston Marathon killing three and injuring 264 people. All of Boston was shocked by this event and the whole city was saddened.
The next day, the Red Sox played at Fenway Park and that is where David Ortiz gave his very well-known “Boston Strong” speech. The Sox dedicated the rest of their season to the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
Boston was brought together because of this event. The Red Sox were able to take people’s mind off of this horrible event and for three hours a day, people could watch baseball and not worry about anything else.

On paper, this team wasn’t supposed to win the World Series that year. If you told people before the season that the Red Sox would go on to win the World Series, they would think you are crazy. But, the team played with so much heart the rest of the season and the whole city of Boston was behind them.
The Red Sox were able to finish the regular season in first place. The Sox went on to beat the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series and beat the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series.
In the World Series, the Red Sox were set to play the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals had been the best team in the National League the whole season, so this was a tough matchup for the Red Sox.
I remember this series like it was yesterday. This team was so fun to watch and played with so much heart. The Red Sox were able to win Game 1 but then drop the next two games. Being down 2-1, the Red Sox were able to come back and win the next three games, winning the World Series.
After winning the World Series, Sox fans came together at the site of the Boston Marathon bombing to celebrate the championship. A couple days after winning the series, the Sox held their championship parade in Boston. The parade ended at the bombing site to honor all the people who were injured and killed in the Marathon bombing.
