Red Sox: Fenway Park hosts Game of Thrones night
The Boston Red Sox will celebrate Game of Thrones night at Fenway Park during Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Winter isn’t coming to Fenway Park yet, but Game of Thrones is. This special event will celebrate the award-winning HBO series on Tuesday, July 18 when the Boston Red Sox look to defend the wall against the incoming threat from the north, the Toronto Blue Jays.
Ticket packages for the event will include a “Ser Andrew Benintendi” bobblehead. The customized figure has the Red Sox rookie left fielder donning the dark attire of the former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, Jon Snow. If the honor helps fuel a big game for Benintendi in a win over the Blue Jays, fans in Toronto may soon begin to believe that the blossoming young star really is the King of the North.
The ticket package also includes an opportunity to sit on the Iron Throne in the Concourse area between Gates B and C. Fans hoping to take a seat on the iconic chair will have to hurry since Daenerys Targaryen is on her way to claim the throne. She has dragons, so you won’t want to get in her way. Also, the opportunity only last from 5:00 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Costumed actors portraying popular Game of Thrones characters will also make appearances. The Mother of Dragons will be among the characters in attendance, as well as the Lannister siblings, Araya Stark, Septa Mordane, Peter Baelish and Varys. Perhaps the Master of Whispers can help the Red Sox steal signs from their opponents. Or at least give us some juicy trade rumor gossip.
A rotation in need of an extra starter calls for aid much like House Stark would call their bannermen for reinforcements before an upcoming battle. Instead of the Knights of the Vale riding to Winterfell, it’s Brian Johnson riding the shuttle from Pawtucket to Boston. The lefty has been recalled from Triple-A to start Tuesday, opposing Jays starter J.A. Happ.
The Red Sox are one of 19 MLB teams with a partnership with HBO for these special events. During their visit to Tampa Bay prior to the All-Star break they were witness to the Rays holding a similar event.
Game of Thrones debuted it’s seventh season last Sunday night, going head-to-head with the Red Sox series finale against the New York Yankees. Many fans would certainly have been torn over which to watch if not for the miracle of DVR.

Boston’s offense has been in a deep slumber since the break. Perhaps the excitement of this theme night will awaken the dragon so that the bats in this lineup may sing a song of fire instead of ice.
