Often considered the most demanding position on the field, the value of Boston’s historic catchers will be measured by their on-field performance and importance to the franchise. While the team has had their fair share of legendary players behind the plate, there’s been a revolving door at the position since Jason Varitek retired in 2011. The Red Sox are expected to field a combination Sandy Leon and Christian Vazquez behind the plate in 2017, neither of which will warrant consideration for this list.
