Red Sox Arizona Fall League Update: October 13-26

BoSoxInjection.com keeps up with all the Winter Leagues, especially the first important one, the Arizona Fall League (AFL). Check out the Red Sox players there this year then come back to this page to see how they are doing in after the first two weeks of the season.

The Hitters

Sam Travis is tied for the league lead in runs with eight for the Scottsdale Scorpions who are hitting .311 as a team through ten games.   He is also tied for most games played for the team, with eight.  Travis is 10 for 35 with three walks, four doubles, a triple and four RBI, compiling a .286/.333/.457 batting line thus far.

Carlos Asuaje has played in six games so far in the AFL.   Asuaje is seven for 24 with a double and a three walks.  Though on-base regularly, he has only scored one runs so far. He made two errors on throws in his first game in this abbreviated season, but has not made an error since. His batting line is .292/.333/.379

Shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin is a taxi squad player for Scottsdale, which means he can play just two games a week. Lin has played four games for Scottsdale. Over 14 plate appearances, Lin’s batting line is .143/.250/143 with two RBI.

The Pitchers

Aaron Wilkerson has struggled in his first two AFL starts.  Wilkerson has allowed ten hits and six earned runs through seven innings, walking five and striking out four. He has not been involved in a decision yet. Wilkerson’s ERA stands at 7.71.

Right-hander Kyle Martin has allowed one run on a solo home run in four innings (three appearances) of AFL work. Martin has allowed three hits in those four innings, walking one batter and striking out five.

Left hander Danny Rosenbaum has gotten off to a strong start in the AFL this year, allowing no runs on two hits, walking one and striking out four in three innings of work over three appearances. Rosenbaum earned a win in one of the appearances.

Right handed pitcher Chandler Shepherd has appeared in just two games so far in the first two weeks of the season. He has allowed two runs in 2.1 innings, allowing a homer among the three hits he has surrendered, walking none and striking out two.
