Gulf Coast League Red Sox

Game One

Final Score: GCL Orioles 1, Red Sox

Notable Pitchers:

Anderson Espinoza (4 IP, 4 H, R, 2 BB, 3 K)

  • Clearly Boston’s most promising prospect in the GCL, Espinoza receives the start in the first game of this double-header. It wasn’t his stingiest of the year but it’s still hard to complain about the results that the precocious 17-year old has been putting up in the Gulf Coast League. If the Red Sox choose an aggressive approach and start him in Greenville next year, it’s looking like he may be up to the task.

Notable Position Players:

Yoan Aybar (0-3, K)

Devon Fisher (0-2, BB)

Trent Kemp (0-3)

Yomar Valentin (0-2, BB)

Game Two

Final Score: GCL Orioles 8, Red Sox 6

Notable Pitchers:

Kevin Steen (4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, BB, 3 K)

  • Another intriguing prospect in the GCL, Steen received the start in the second game of the double-header. Steen is extremely raw and is mostly a project arm but the 19-year old has the potential to have three solid-average pitches a few years down the line. He’s got a long way to go but, as SoxProspects puts it, he’s “someone you can dream on.”

Notable Position Players:

Yoan Aybar (1-4, BB, 2 K)

Trent Kemp (2-4, 2B, BB, K)

Andrew Noviello (0-1, BB, K)

Yomar Valentin (2-5, BB)
