Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox

Final Score: Norfolk Tides 6, PawSox 2

Notable Pitchers:

Matt Barnes (4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K)

  • Barnes’ transition to the bullpen hasn’t gone perfectly, but last night’s outing did. With four perfect innings, Barnes shows just how dominant he could be out of the bullpen. With all the starting pitching prospects that the Red Sox have, Barnes will likely end up in the bullpen eventually so it makes sense to start early and this performance showcases his potential.

Ronald Belisario (IP, 0 H, 0 R, K)

Heath Hembree (IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, K)

Notable Position Players:

Jackie Bradley Jr. (2-3, 3B, BB, K)

Garin Cecchini (2-3, BB, K)

Allen Craig (0-3, BB, 2 K)

Deven Marrero (1-3, BB, K)

Travis Shaw (0-4, 2 K)

Double-A Portland Sea Dogs

Final Score: Trenton Thunder 5, Sea Dogs 1

Notable Pitchers:

Williams Jerez (2 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 2 K)

Notable Position Players:

Carlos Asuaje (0-4, 2 K)

Tzu-Wei Lin (1-3)

  • Lin was a highly-touted signing out of Taiwan as an elite defensive shortstop who had the potential to hit a little. It took him a while to settle in after being signed in 2012, but he hit well enough with Salem to earn a promotion to Portland. He’s now slashing just .190/.261/.286 with the Sea Dogs but he’s just 21 years old and has plenty of time to adapt to Double-A.

Manuel Margot (1-4, 2B, 2 K)

Henry Ramos (1-4, 2B, K)

Sam Travis (0-3, BB)

High-A Salem Red Sox

Final Score: Wilmington Blue Rocks 6, Red Sox 5

Notable Pitchers:

Daniel McGrath (3.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, BB, 3 K)

Chandler Shepherd (IP, 0 H, 0 R, K)

Notable Position Players:

Wendell Rijo (1-4, 2B)

  • Rijo hasn’t adapted well to High-A after a promising season a year ago in Greenville. He’s hitting only .245/.303/.379, though he has hit 21 doubles, a far cry from his success in the lower levels of the minors. Still, he’s 19 years old and has plenty of time to get back on track; after all, he’ll likely be in Portland as a 20-year old.

Low-A Greenville Drive

Final Score: Augusta GreenJackets 11, Drive 3

Notable Position Players:

Rafael Devers (1-4, 2B, CS, K)

Nick Longhi (0-3, BB, K)

Danny Mars (0-4, K)

Yoan Moncada (1-3, 2 BB, K)

  • It’s pretty amazing how quickly Moncada has turned his season around. He struggled mightily for about his first month in Greenville, but with a scorching July that has seen him hit .342/.437/.562, he is finally delivering on his promise. Moncada is up to a respectable .275/.364/.418 with 18 stolen bases on the season.

Short-Season A Lowell Spinners

Final Score: Tri-Cities ValleyCats 5, Spinners 4

Notable Position Players:

Luis Alexander Basabe (1-4, 2B, CS)

Andrew Benintendi (1-3, HR, BB, K)

  • Another day, another game with a homer and a walk for Benintendi. He’s not hitting for the best average ever, but his patience and power have more than made up for it as he’s slashing .244/.426/.556 with a 9:14 K:BB ratio and 4 home runs. Benintendi is likely on track for a promotion to Greenville soon where he can really put his skills to the test.

Mitchell Gunsolus (0-5, K)

Tate Matheny (1-3, 2B, K)

Josh Ockimey (1-4, K)

Tucker Tubbs (1-4)

Gulf Coast League Red Sox

Final Score: Red Sox 8, GCL Rays 2

Notable Pitchers:

Logan Allen (IP, 0 H, 0 R, K)

  • Allen, one of the prizes from Boston’s 2015 draft class, makes his professional debut in the GCL. An eighth-round selection, Allen signed a bonus well over-slot and has one of the higher ceilings in the draft as he sports a three-pitch mix with a fastball in the low 90’s. He’s quite raw and far from the majors, but he’s a guy that has the potential to become a legitimate Red Sox prospect down the line.

Notable Position Players:

Devon Fisher (1-1, 2B)

Trent Kemp (1-4, K)

Andrew Noviello (0-2, BB, K)

Kyri Washington (2-3, HR, BB, K)
