Edwin Escobar

(71) delivers against the Tampa Bay Rays during the ninth inning of Boston

Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox

Final Score: Durham Bulls 3, PawSox 0

Notable Pitchers:

Edwin Escobar (3 IP, 2 H, R)

  • Yesterday’s performance is a big step forward for Escobar, who has struggled mightily this season. Once a highly-touted pitching prospect for the Giants, Escobar came to the Red Sox in the Jake Peavy trade last June and the Red Sox have converted him to relief since. He has been awful this season, still sporting a 9.69 ERA, but he’ll be a useful arm if the Red Sox can make him into a viable relief option.

Zeke Spruill (5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K)

Notable Position Players:

Jackie Bradley Jr. (0-4, K)

Rusney Castillo (1-4)

Allen Craig (1-3, K)

Marco Hernandez (0-3, K)

Daniel Nava (0-3, K)

Travis Shaw (1-3, K)

Double-A Portland Sea Dogs

Final Score: Sea Dogs 2, New Hampshire Fisher Cats 0

Notable Pitchers:

Williams Jerez (2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, K)

Notable Position Players:

Carlos Asuaje (0-4, K)

Manuel Margot (0-4)

Henry Ramos (3-4, 2B)

  • Ramos’s season has largely been hampered by injuries but if yesterday is any indication, he might be rounding into form again. We’re talking about a guy that was enjoying a breakout season here in Portland a year ago before injuries prematurely ended his season and Ramos has the potential to be at least a fourth outfielder, plus he’s still just 23 years old.

High-A Salem Red Sox

Final Score: Myrtle Beach Pelicans 4, Red Sox 0

Notable Position Players:

Mauricio Dubon (0-4, 2 K)

  • Dubon, who was having an excellent season with the Low-A Drive, continues to struggle since moving up to Salem. In 21 games, he’s hitting only .200/.274/.227 and has lost much of the helium that he had gained with the Drive. Still, he’s just 21 years old and there’s time to turn his season around.

Wendell Rijo (0-3, BB)

Low-A Greenville Drive

Final Score: Asheville Tourists 5, Drive 4

Notable Pitchers:

Jalen Beeks (6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, BB, 5 K)

Notable Position Players:

Rafael Devers (2-5, HR)

  • Devers’ season has been marked by torrid stretches which have largely offset extended slumps. Having gone 2-5 with a home run in back-to-back games now, he appears to be entering one of those hot streaks at the plate.

Javier Guerra (0-5)

Nick Longhi (1-3, 2 BB)

Danny Mars (1-3, BB, SB)

Yoan Moncada (1-5, 2 K)

Jun 13, 2015; Omaha, NE, USA; Arkansas Razorbacks runner

Andrew Benintendi

Short Season-A Lowell Spinners

Final Score: Staten Island Yankees 4, Spinners 3

Notable Pitchers:

Jake Cosart (5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, BB, 2 K)

  • Cosart was taken in the third round of last year’s draft as a project arm and his rawness has been transparent this season as he has a 6.86 ERA and more walks than strikeouts. In fact, walks have been a huge problem for him thus far and yesterday’s outing, which saw him only walk one batter in a successful start, is quite encouraging for the hard-throwing right-hander.

Bobby Poyner (0 IP, H, R)

Notable Position Players:

Victor Acosta (1-4, K)

Luis Alexander Basabe (1-5, SB, K)

Andrew Benintendi (1-2, HR, 2 BB)

  • After a dull stretch of games, Benintendi is definitely back on track, hitting a home run and drawing two more walks. He’s gotten his slash line up to .250/.429/.472 and he’s back to looking the part of Boston’s first-round draft pick.

Josh Ockimey (0-4, K)
