Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox

Final Score: Pawtucket Red Sox 7, Lehigh Valley 2

Notable Pitchers:

Keith Couch (6 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 3 K)

* Couch took the start that was suppose to be for Brian Johnson, who was finally promoted to Boston. Couch has now followed-up on at excellent 2014 in Portland (8-2, 2.96) with his promotion to Pawtucket. Couch started slowly at Pawtucket until June, which produced three excellent starts, but soon regressed and his first outing in July was a five inning effort in which he allowed eight runs. Couch, a 25-year-old right-hander, features a fastball in the low 90s, an average curve ball and a change-up that needs improvement. For 2015 Couch’s ERA is approaching 6.00.

Notable Position Players:

Daniel Nava (3-4, 2B, 3 RBI)

Rusney Castillo (2-5)

Jackie Bradley (1-4, R)

Allen Craig (4-5, R, RBI)

* Craig has been in a slump with the PawSox that saw his average drop to under .270 until he broke out tonight with four singles.

Double-A Portland Sea Dogs

Final Score: Binghamton 6, Portland Sea Dogs 1

Notable Pitchers:

Daniel Rosenbaum (1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K)

* Rosenbaum is a 27-year-old lefty who was acquired from the Nationals for Dan Butler. Rosenbaum had TJ surgery last May and this start represented his first apearance for Portland after a brief rehab with the Lowell Spinners.

Notable Position Players:

Marco Hernandez (1-4)

Keury De La Cruz (3-4, R, 3B)

Sam Travis (2-4)

High-A Salem Red Sox

Final Score: Salem Red Sox 3, Frederick 2 (10 innings)

Notable Pitchers:

Daniel McGrath (4 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB)

* McGrath is a 21-year-old left-hander signed as an international free agent from Australia. McGrath features a fastball that tops out in the high 80s to go with a decent curve and change. McGrath’s issue is control. At Greenville in 2014 McGrath issued 52 walks in 97.2 innings.

Notable Position Players:

Mauricio Dubon (0-5, 3 K)

Wendell Rijo (3-4, RBI, 2B)

Forrestt Allday (1-4, R)

Low-A Greenville Drive

Final Score: Greenville Drive 11, Asheville 7

Notable Pitchers:

Reed Reilly (5 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 4 HR)

Notable Position Players:

Michael Chavis (2-6, 2 R, 2 RBI)

Javier Guerra (3-6, 1 R, RBI)

Cisco Tellez (1-5, HR, 2 RBI)

Joseph Monge (4-5, 2 R)

Danny Bethea (3-5, 2 R, 3 RBI)

Yoan Moncada (0-5, 4 K)

* A tough night for Moncada as he was the only Greenville regular without a hit, but July has shown a world of promise for the high priced Moncada. Moncada was a slow starter at Greenville as he worked the rust off from a year of inactivity. Going into the game this evening Moncada was hitting .364 for July and had an OPS of 1.002. Moncada continues to display his base stealing ability with five steals for July and 14 for the season without being caught.

Short Season A Lowell Spinners

Final Score: Mahoning Valley 8, Lowell Spinners 6

Notable Pitchers:

Simon Mercedes (4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K)

Javier Rodriguez

* Rodriguez (J-Rod?) was making first first appearance at Lowell since being recall from the GCL Red Sox where the 20-year-old left-hander pitched 12 innings with a 0.75 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. What was noticeable at the GCL was eight walks and just three strike outs. This is consistent with his 2012-14 performance in the DSL and GCL where Rodriguez pitched a combined 83.1 innings with 44 walks and 53 strikeouts.

Notable Position Players:

Jordon Austin (1-4, RBI)

Jeremy Rivera (2-5, 2 R, 3B, RBI)

Austin Rei (2-5, 2 R, RBI)

Gulf Coast League Red Sox (Rookie)

Final Score: GCL Twins 2, GCL Red Sox 0

Notable Pitchers:

Kevin Steen (4 IP, 5 H, 2 R ( 0 earned), 7 K)

* Steen was a 9th round selection in 2014 from Oak Ridge H.S in Tennessee. Now 18-years old the right-handed Steen is 3-1 with no earned runs in 16 innings. Steen has walked only three while fanning seven in his GCL stint. The scouting reports state Steen has a fastball that is consistently in the high 80s and occasionally into the low 90s and a curve ball that needs development. Steen is classified as a project at this point,

Notable Position Players:

Tyler Spoon (1-3)

Jagger Rusconi (2-3, 2B)
