Double-A Portland Sea Dogs
Final Score: Sea Dogs 9, Fightin’ Phils 1
Notable Position Players:
Carlos Asuaje (3-5, 2 K, SB)
Marco Hernandez (3-4)
- Hernandez was the player to be named later from the Cubs in the Felix Doubront trade and, though that trade didn’t appear to be a significant move, Hernandez has raked since joining the organization. In 65 games with the Sea Dogs this season, he’s slashing .330/.354/.489 and leads the Eastern League in batting average. He’s still not a very highly-touted prospect but, at just 22 years old, he could certainly make something of himself.
Manuel Margot (1-3, 2 BB, K)
Sam Travis (1-3, 2 BB)

High-A Salem Red Sox
Final Score: Carolina Mudcats 9, Red Sox 4
Notable Pitchers:
Teddy Stankiewicz (5 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, BB, 3 K)
- Stankiewicz turns in a shaky outing here just a game after his best professional start, watching his ERA balloon up to 4.06 on the season. He has essentially established himself as a polished starting pitching prospect with good command but unspectacular raw stuff, which has prevented himself from dominating even in the lower minors. Still, he’s only 21 years old and, unless he falters in the upper minors, is on track to be at least a bullpen arm.
Notable Position Players:
Mauricio Dubon (1-4, 2 K)
Tzu-Wei Lin (1-4, SB)
Wendell Rijo (0-2, K)

Low-A Greenville Drive
Final Score: Asheville Tourists 6, Drive 3
Notable Position Players:
Michael Chavis (1-4, BB, K)
Rafael Devers (0-5, K)
Nick Longhi (2-3, BB)
- The Red Sox selected the promising high school bat of Longhi in the 30th round of the 2013 draft and, by virtue of being a lifelong Red Sox fan (born in Springfield, MA), he passed up college to sign with the Red Sox. He has hit well in the lower levels of the minors, despite a promising season being cut short by injuries last year, and is slashing .279/.341/.384 right now. He has a good feel for hitting for somebody so young (he’ll turn 20 in August) and could become a legitimate prospect in time.
Yoan Moncada (0-2, 2 BB, 2 K)

Short Season A Lowell Spinners
Final Score: West Virginia Black Bears 12, Spinners 3
Notable Pitchers:
Jose Almonte (1.1 IP, 0 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, K)
Matt Kent (4.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K)
Notable Position Players:
Victor Acosta (0-4, K)
Luis Alexander Basabe (0-3, BB, K, SB)
Andrew Benintendi (0-2, BB)
- After performing well in his first few games with the Spinners, Benintendi has tailed off a bit recently. Through his first six games in the organization, he’s hitting just .227/.333/.364 with a homer and a steal. Boston’s first-round pick will obviously improve as he acclimates to life in professional baseball and it’s too early to make any judgements, though.
Mitchell Gunsolus (1-4, K)
Tate Matheny (1-2, K)
Josh Ockimey (1-4, 2 K)
Tucker Tubbs (1-4, 2B)

Gulf Coast League Red Sox
Final Score: GCL Rays 3, Red Sox 2
Notable Position Players:
Yoan Aybar (1-3, K)
Nicholos Hamilton (1-3, BB, 2 K)
Danny Mars (0-3, K)
Tyler Spoon (0-3, BB)
- The Red Sox selected Benintendi’s college teammate Tyler Spoon with their 35th round pick and have assigned the former Arkansas star to the Gulf Coast League. Spoon’s future isn’t nearly as bright as Benintendi’s, but it’s still an interesting story that the two players, who batted 3rd and 4th in Arkansas’s lineup, are in the same organization once more.
