Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox
Final Score: Syracuse Chiefs 3, PawSox 2
Notable Pitchers:
Edwin Escobar (0.2 IP, H, R, ER, BB, K)
Brian Johnson (5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K)
- Johnson didn’t turn in his best outing of the season, but he was solid and likely could have gone out for a sixth inning given that he was only at 87 pitches. He doesn’t appear to have much more to learn from Triple-A and could be with the Red Sox shortly once the Red Sox decide to finally cut ties with Justin Masterson for good.
Noe Ramirez (2.1 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K)
- Ramirez gets back to dominating Triple-A after a terrible major league debut. He has pitched to a 2.22 ERA with the PawSox this season but it’s unclear if his deception will ever fully translate to the big leagues.
Notable Position Players:
Jackie Bradley Jr. (0-3, BB)
Rusney Castillo (0-2, RBI, BB)
Garin Cecchini (1-4, 3 K)
Allen Craig (0-4, K)
Daniel Nava (0-4, RBI)

Double-A Portland Sea Dogs
Final Score: Sea Dogs 5, Binghampton Mets 4
Notable Position Players:
Carlos Asuaje (0-3)
Manuel Margot (1-4, R, RBI, SB)
- Margot has hit the ground running since his promotion to Portland, slashing .293/.349/.448 with 5 stolen bases. He was recently ranked as the 14th best prospect in all of baseball according to Baseball Prospectus and is really making his name as a future star. However, with Boston’s glut of outfielders both now and in the future, it’s unclear where he’ll fit in. Either they’ll have to make room for him or he could be a dynamic trade chip in the next month.

Low-A Greenville Drive
Final Score: Drive 8, Savannah Sand Gnats 7
Notable Position Players:
Michael Chavis (2-5, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, K)
- Chavis’s first minor league season hasn’t exactly gone as planned, with the 19-year old hitting just .202/.266/.351 in Greenville. However, this is a step in the right direction for Chavis, who hits his 7th home run of the season. He’s shown flashes of brilliance but if he doesn’t turn it around soon, he could be looking at repeating Low-A next season.
Rafael Devers (2-4, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI)
Javier Guerra (2-4, R, RBI, 2 K)
Yoan Moncada (1-3, 2 R, BB, K, SB)

Short Season-A Lowell Spinners
Final Score: Tri-City Valleycats 7, Spinners 4
Notable Position Players:
Victor Acosta (0-3, BB, K)
Andrew Benitendi (0-3, BB)
Mitchell Gunsolus (0-2, R, 2 BB, K)
Austin Rei (0-3, K)
- Rei makes his debut in the Red Sox organization with a quiet performance here. There’s not a ton of offensive projection for Rei, though he did swing the bat well in college, but he profiles as an excellent defensive catcher and that should be his strength going forward.
Tucker Tubbs (2-3, HR, R, RBI)
- Tubbs hits his first home run since joining the Red Sox organization. The ninth-round selection out of Memphis is a college senior first baseman, so there’s hardly a high ceiling here. However, he’s shown the ability to hit in college and is slashing .256/.375/.462 in his first taste of professional baseball.

Gulf Coast League Red Sox
Final Score: Red Sox 2, Rays 0
Notable Pitchers:
Daniel McGrath (3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 4 K)
Kevin Steen (4 IP, H, 0 R, 4 K)
- Last season’s ninth-round pick out of a Tennessee high school, Steen is an intriguing project arm. An exceptionally young high schooler, Steen won’t even turn 19 for a few more weeks. He’s been excellent in the GCL this year, not even allowing a run (and only six baserunners) in 12 innings, and he could be on his way to Lowell soon.
Notable Position Players:
Yoan Aybar (1-3, R)
Devon Fisher (0-4, K)
Trent Kemp (0-2, 2 BB, K)
Danny Mars (1-4)
