• Kelly’s second start with the PawSox didn’t go quite as well as his first, with the hard-throwing righty walking four and allowing three runs in just six innings. It’s becoming ever clearer that Kelly is not cut out to be a major league starter and the Red Sox might be best served to convert him to relief, where he could dominate.

Carlos Asuaje (2-4)

• Asuaje has been struggling lately, hitting just .211 in his last ten games, but he turns in a nice performance here. He got off to a hot start in Portland but he’s now hitting only .246/.350/.375, with his patience at the plate probably his best talent. He projects as only a utility man going forward, but that’s about as much as you can expect from an 11th round pick.

Low-A Greenville Drive

Jalen Beeks (6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K)

• Beeks is somewhat of a fringe prospect for the Red Sox, as a left-hander taken from Arkansas in the 12th round of the 2014 draft. However, he’s had good results since joining the organization and has a respectable 4.27 ERA in Greenville at age 21. He’s probably nothing more than a reliever in the long run but even that has value in a late-round pick.

• Boston’s first round pick makes his organizational debut, turning in a solid performance for the Spinners. Batting in the three-hole, it’s clear that Benintendi is already one of the best players on the team and, after a few weeks to get his feet wet, he should be on to Greenville.

GCL Red Sox

Yoan Aybar (1-6, K)

• Aybar is a 17-year old who signed with the Red Sox out of the Dominican Republic in 2013 and he’s just now making his stateside debut. He’s incredibly raw, but he has potential to be a well-rounded outfielder several years down the line, though he’s currently hitting just .242/.257/.333 in the Gulf Coast League this season.
