Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox

Rusney Castillo (0-4, RBI, 2 K)

Garin Cecchini (0-3, K)

Allen Craig (2-4, K)

Edwin Escobar (0.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB)

  • This is about as good an outing as one could expect from Escobar in an embarrassing 14-2 loss. Escobar is getting his feet wet in working out of the bullpen full time this season and, after last night’s terrible performance, his ERA stands at 12.46 in 8.2 innings. There’s clearly work to be done, but he’ll probably be up with the Red Sox for a September call-up at least.

Daniel Nava (1-3, 2 K)

  • Nava makes his triumphant return to baseball after spending over two months on the disabled list with a thumb injury. He’s slashing only .159/.250/.190 on the season and will join an already crowded Red Sox outfield, but hopefully he can return to being a solid platoon bat going forward.

Double-A Portland Sea Dogs

Carlos Asuaje (2-6, R, RBI, K)

Williams Jerez (2 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 K)

Manuel Margot (2-5, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K, SB, CS)

Sam Travis (4-7, 2B, R)

  • The Sea Dogs played 16 innings in an eventual win last night and Travis played a big part in the victory, collecting four hits and knocking a double. He hasn’t gotten off to a great start since his promotion to Double-A, but after last night’s game he’s looking a whole lot better at .233/.294/.300. A few more good games should put the 21-year old first baseman back into respectable territory.

High-A Salem Red Sox

  • This game was suspended after the top of the fifth and the Red Sox will resume the game today with a 1-0 lead.

Trey Ball (4.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 2 K)

  • Though his peripherals have been a bit shaky, Ball’s results have taken a big step forward this season. He’s dramatically lowered his ERA to 3.50 and is looking much more deserving of Boston’s seventh overall pick in the 2013 draft. Not to mention that he just turned 21 and is on track to be in the majors before his mid 20’s.

Low-A Greenville Drive

Michael Chavis (0-4, 2 BB, 3 K)

Rafael Devers (0-6, 3 K)

  • This represents a very tough night at the plate for Devers, who is slashing .298/.329/.447 but is still not showing the type of consistency that would normally indicate a promotion is in order.

Javier Guerra (2-6, R, K)

Michael Kopech (6 IP, 6 H, R, ER, BB, 5 K)

  • Kopech turned in one of his longest and best starts of the season last night, lasting a full six innings. He was quite good in those six frames, turning in an excellent outing which allowed him to drop his ERA to 2.89 in his first year of full-season ball.

Nick Longhi (2-6, K)

Short Season-A Lowell Spinners

Victor Acosta (0-3, K)

Jake Cosart (1.1 IP, 4 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 3 K)

  • Cosart, last season’s third-round pick, was rocked last night for seven runs in less than two innings. He was hailed as being a powerful, interesting arm that needed a long way to go before he was polished enough for the majors and, sporting a 9.72 ERA in Lowell, that has held true thus far.

Mitchell Gunsolus (1-3, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB, K)

Matt Kent (3 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 4 K)

GCL Red Sox

Devon Fisher (1-4, RBI, 2 K)

Trent Kemp (2-5, 2 R, RBI)

  • Kemp, a toolsy outfielder whom the Red Sox drafted in the 15th round last year, turns in a good game here. He struggled last year in his first taste of the minors but he’s doing better in his second turn in the GCL, slashing .310/.394/.345 with a pair of stolen bases.

Henry Ramos (0-4, BB)

Jagger Rusconi (0-4, 2 K)
