The future is here.  Will Middlebrooks, the future third baseman for the Boston Red Sox has been recalled for tonight’s game against the Oakland A’s, making his long awaited debut in a Red Sox uniform.  Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe has the story via CSNNE.com.

Nothing has been announced as of yet if Middlebrooks will start the game tonight or not.  Kevin Youkilis has been out of the lineup for the past three games with back stiffness and should he head to the DL it is likely that recent call up Jose Iglesias would remain with the club.  If Youk is simply needing more rest, Iglesias could get sent down to AAA Pawtucket.

Middlebrooks has been absolutely racking at the minor league level with an offensive line of .333/.380/.677 with  9 home runs and 27 RBIs in 24 games.  The move to call him up was inevitable this season and it came down to the broken down body of Kevin Youkilis to finally allow us to get a glimpse of this kid.

In other news, the Red Sox announced they have signed first baseman Jeff Larish according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America via Twitter.  The 29-year old Larish has seen major league playing time with the Tigers and A’s where he accumulated 276 plate appearances good for an offensive line of  .224/.308/.380.  Financial terms were not disclosed.
