Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington gave the nation some comforting news yesterday–Jacoby Ellsbury is expected to recover fully without needing surgery to repair his subluxed right shoulder.
"“At this point, our belief is he can recover from this without surgery, but we’re still gathering information,’’ Cherington said."
He still left the door open in case something were to come up but at this point the GM sounds confident that Ellsbury can make a full recovery.
Cherington also said that the club was looking at potential trades to add depth to the Red Sox’ now weak outfield but didn’t expect to make one at this juncture in the season.
"“It’s not the easiest time to make trades. But, yeah, we’re looking to see if there’s something out there that will protect us a little bit more, but we’re also considering different internal solutions.’’"
Carl Crawford is expected to play in extended spring training games Tuesday. If his rehab goes as planned the Sox will likely wait it out until he makes a return.
Ellsbury suffered the right shoulder subluxation trying to break up a double play in the Red Sox’ home opener on Friday.
