Carl Crawford Has Wrist Surgery. Another Step in the Wrong Direction

Carl Crawford had arthroscopic surgery on his left wrist and is in jeopardy of missing opening day.  They say this is a common surgery of the wrist, none the less, how convenient.  Maybe he injured himself missing the short fly that ended our season last year.  That would explain how a Gold Glove outfielder could have dropped that one.  After a disastrous season last year and an off season where he played hide and seek with new manager Bobby Valentine, Crawford waits until a month before spring training to have the surgery.  Way to get the fans on your side Carl.

I will be the first to admit that I thought the signing of Crawford last off season made the Red Sox the Beasts of the East.  Instead of looking like the superstar he was in Tampa , he now resembles J.D. Drew.  The outfield was already looking a little weak with Crawford playing, now we have Darnell McDonald slotted  as the everyday left fielder until Crawford returns.  How’s that Josh Reddick trade looking to everyone now?  The day after they trade Reddick to Oakland, Ryan Kalish announces he wont be available to play until mid season and now Crawford is going to miss the start of the regular season.  The starting outfield will now consist of McDonald, Jacoby Ellsbury and Ryan Sweeney, not exactly Murderer’s Row, is it?

Bottom line is Carl Crawford has done nothing this off season to endear himself with the fans.  All we were told was how hard he was working this off season.    Of course that was coming from his agent and not Crawford himself, he was too busy hiding from Valentine , which itself was childish.

Somewhere J. D. Drew is getting the last laugh, thinking he is no longer the biggest free agent bust in Red Sox history.
