Red Sox Dominate Silver Slugger Awards
The personal achievements and awards continue to pile up for the Red Sox as Jacoby Ellsbury, David Ortiz and Adrian Gonzalez all took home AL Silver Slugger awards on Wednesday.
It was the second day in a row that three Red Sox players were honored based on their personal performance during the past season, with Ellsbury, Gonzalez and Pedroia winning Gold Gloves yesterday.
The award recognizes the players against others in their respective positions and is solely based on the offensive statistics. The Red Sox were one of the top teams in almost every offensive category this season.
For Ellsbury, the hardware continues to pile up and he may not be finished yet. He is coming off what was by far and away his best year as a professional and was recognized for it by earning his first Silver Slugger award.
Gonzalez, like Ellsbury won an award for the second consecutive day, picking up the Silver Slugger for the first base position. Gonzo lived up to the hype in his first season in Boston, delivering countless line drives off the monster and driving in runs like it’s going out of style. It’s going to be fun to watch him for the next six years as a member of the Red Sox.
For Big Papi, David Ortiz, this was his fifth Silver Slugger award at the DH position, making him the first five-time winner at that position. This award just cements the case that Ortiz still has plenty to offer as a DH and confirms his case that the Red Sox would benefit by resigning him. Looks like his price tag may have just gone up a little.
