All of you laughed when I compared Spiderman to Terry Francona before the season began.  Still laughing? I will agree with what I heard on the radio the other day. A very unlikable team got a very likable manager fired. How true are those words. I have mixed emotions about Francona leaving. He was the greatest manager in Red Sox history. But, like all managers, he got burnt out and complacent. Maybe it was time for change. For him and this team.
At the beginning of the season, Francona was on top of the world. Hell, we were about to hand him his third championship ring before a single pitch was thrown. On paper, the Red Sox were that good. But, thats why they play the game. Anyone can be beat at any time. Sometimes it seems that you can do no wrong and other times nothing you do is right, unfortunately that was the case with Tito this year. He struggled filling out the lineup card for each game. Even with the best offensive team in baseball, it seemed like it never fell into place completely.
I don’t want to beat a dead horse, this Red Sox team has been dissected thoroughly in the media already since last Friday. I have all off season to write about individual players and who performed and who didn’t. Some say, if it’s not broken leave it alone. I believe, if it’s not broken, break it and fix it again. Complacency is never the right thing and really that’s what this entire season was about. Everyone being complacent until it was too late. Then a season, a hope and a dream was shattered. Did Francona really walk away? His t shirt says other wise. In an interview, Tito was wearing a Popeye t shirt that spelled, ” Well Blow me down.” Tito had his arms crossed in a way that the word “down” was  hidden.  Coincidence? You tell me.
Just giving the new manager in waiting a heads up now. Great powers, come great responsibility. Learn it well for it will be the chilling sound of your doom, if you don’t.
