Bedard Gets Served By Yankees Fan
Hours before Red Sox starter, Erik Bedard was set to make his first start since September 3 on Tuesday night, he was served legal papers for child support. No big deal right? Well, what makes this story interesting is that the process server was wearing a Yankees shirt.
Tom Cabral, the server, claims he wasn’t trying to rattle the Red Sox lefty and apologized to Bedard, stating he just had a job to do (according to espn.com).
To me, this act is both low and classless. You mean to tell me that Mr. Cabral couldn’t have thrown a coat on or changed his shirt? Or perhaps he did change his shirt and intentionally put the Yankees shirt on in an effort to rub it in to Bedard.
Bedard stated that the pregame visit wasn’t a distraction, and in his good nature he signed the papers without giving much attention to Cabral.
Here we are in the midst of a playoff race and this bozo shows up to Fenway Park in a Yankees shirt, but claims he didn’t mean anything by it? Highly doubtful Tom.
Another argument could be made questioning the Fenway Park security guards. Could they not have stopped this act, or at least asked Bedard if he would agree to the visitor? I’m not up to speed on my legal rights, but doesn’t Bedard have the right to accept a visit, or at least have the right to have this encounter set up for a pre-determined time? Pretty sure it wouldn’t be a few hours before gametime.
Bedard was served the papers for an increase in child support for his 5-year-old daughter, after his former girlfriend filed a complaint asking for an adjustment to the original paternity agreement from back in 2006 because of Bedard’s increased salary.
This is just another reason to hate the Yankees. They sure make it easy, even though they helped the Red Sox out earlier Wednesday afternoon.
