Vote for Big Papi and Win
As you know by now, David Ortiz is this years Red Sox nominee for the prestigous Roberto Clemente award. Each club has a nominee to honor that player’s outstanding commitments and contributions to local communities and charities over the past year.
Now you have a chance to win big by voting for Big Papi. By simply voting for Ortiz at www.chevybaseball.com/clemente you are automatically entered into a draw to win a trip to the 2011 World Series, where the winner of the Roberto Clemente Award will be presented.
Along with the trip to the Fall Classic, the winner will also receive one vote as part of the selection panel which includes commissioner Bud Selig and former Roberto Clemente award winners Cal Ripken Jr. and John Smoltz.
Ortiz is being recognized for his tireless visits to local hospitals where he helps children in need of medical care. His charity has raised over $1.5 million over the years which has helped save over 200 children who required life saving heart surgery in the Dominican Republic and the Northeastern U.S. He truly is one of the good guys in baseball with a huge heart.
Not to be forgotten, the oberto Clemente award was created after the 12-time All-star and Hall of Famer died in a plane crash on New Year’s Eve in 1972 when he was on his way to deliver relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Clemente was an icon when it came to helping others and today, his award not only reminds us all of that but recognizes one baseball player who continues his legacy.
Voting ends on October 9th, so be sure to vote early and often.
