On Tuesday the Red Sox announced that they had promoted five players from their minor league system as part of the expanded roster allocation.

Joining the big club are first baseman, Lars Anderson, left handed pitcher Trevor Miller, right handed pitcher Junichi Tazawa, outfielder Joey Gathright and shortstop phenom Jose Iglesias.

The callups really mean one thing at this point of the season – relief.  Expanding the roster allows manager Terry Francona to subsitute position players to rest his “usual suspects” when games may be out of reach for either our beloved Red Sox or their formidable opponents.
