Buchholz to See Back Specialist

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe broke the news earlier today that Clay Buchholz will travel to Los Angeles on Monday to be examined by back-specialist Dr. Robert Watkins. Buchholz hasn’t appeared in a game for the Red Sox since June 16th and his recovery has been marred with setbacks and continued soreness and pain in his back. Dr. Watkins specializes in treating herniated discs and Buchholz is hoping to hear good news from him early next week. Given his current pattern of recovery and discomfort after throwing, the news may not be so positive, but his opinion will be extremely important in determining Buchholz’s status for the remainder of 2011.
