Sox Top Charts in Motown

Motown has brought the recording industry many superstars. Today the Superstars came to Motown and when the rains ended the game in the eighth inning, the  Boston Red Sox were on top of the charts in the AL East. For the second consecutive day the Sox pummeled their opponents to the tune of 14 runs as the Sox cruised to an easy 14-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Also for the second consecutive game,Carl Crawford rapped out 4 hits. Yesterday, Crawford fell a triple shy from hitting the cycle.  Today all Crawford could hit was triples, a pair of them to be exact. Those two triples also drove in three runs.  Crawford is finally silencing the critiques after back to back four hit performances. Josh Reddick, making his 2011 Red Sox debut, hit the ground running as he collected three hits while driving in three runs. Jacoby Ellsbury didn’t need multiple hits to drive in his three RBI’s, he only needed one swing of the bat.. Jacoby drilled his fifth homer of the year, a three run blast into the right field seats in the second inning to give the Sox a quick 5-0 lead.

Overlooked in this lopsided win was another strong performance by starter, Alfredo Aceves. Aceves went six innings allowing only one run while striking out six. The few times Alfredo appeared to be in trouble, he found a way to fight his way out of it. It goes without say that Aceves has been a very good replacement in the rotation for the injured Daisuke Matsuzaka.

The Sox are now in a first place tie with the New York Yankees.  It took the Sox forty games to reach the .500 mark and fifty games to reach first place.  Now that they have reached the top, will the beat go on in Motown the next three days?
