Another frustrating night of baseball at Fenway Park last night. First, Daisuke Matsuzaka had to leave the game with no outs in the fifth inning due to tightness in his right elbow. Daisuke left the game with the Sox clinging to a 4-3 lead. That lead would hold up until the seventh inning, the inning that started with the unreliable Bobby Jenks taking the mound.
In typical Bobby Jenks fashion, the inning and game was over before you knew it. Ichiro Suzuki lead off the inning with a single and Chone Figgins followed with a double. After striking out Milton Bradley, Miguel Olivo grounded out to Dustin Pedroia, and Ichiro came across the plate with the tying run. After a walk, Jack Cust doubled to drive in what turned out to be the winning run.
Jenks said after the game, “I don’t know where I’m at, somethings not clicking.” Really Bobby? You could have fooled me. What Jenks should have said is “Nothing is clicking.” Seattle was considered one of the weakest offensive hitting teams in the American League. Nothing like a good dose of Jenks to prove that theory wrong.
Every outing, Jenks looks more and more like a batting practice pitcher. Don’t worry Bobby, I’m sure you will figure out what’s wrong eventually. Besides, no harm done, all this loss did was drop us back into last place.
