Did you ever think you would see headlines like that again? Daisuke Matsuzakashut down the Toronto Blue Jays for the Red Sox third win in a row. As usual, Jed (Babe Ruth) Lowrie provided all the offense needed. He continued his tear on opposing pitchers by going 4-5 with 4 RBI’s. Jacoby Ellsbury also continued his power surge with his 4th home run and second in two days. Are we finally getting a glimpse of what we all thought this team would be coming out of spring training?
For the third consecutive day, we saw good pitching and timely hitting as the Red Sox rolled to an easy 9-1 victory on Patriots Day. Daisuke threw 7 innings of 1 hit ball. The bigger story was in those 7 innings, Dice-K only needed 89 pitches. His usual pitch count when he goes 4 or 5 innings. He allowed only 1 walk while striking out 3. Way too soon to get too excited, but it does shed optimism amongst the Red Sox faithful.
Is Jed Lowriefor real? When was the last time have we seen a Red Sox player so locked in at the plate? We have all said it before, with his health issues behind him, maybe this is what he was always capable of doing. We just never knew it. Another multi hit game, this time with 4 hits, one of those hits a two run homer. That is 10 hits in the past three days, simply amazing. I hope Marco Scutarois prepared to be a full time reserve, because I don’t see Lowrie out of the starting lineup anytime soon.
Everyone in the lineup mustered at least one hit except, Jason Varitek. Then again, I promised I would never complain about Varitek’s hitting again as long as the pitchers are responding to his leadership. Obviously they are, first Josh Beckett‘s gem and Daisuke today. Even the struggling Carl Crawford ripped an RBI double today.
The Sox now travel to the West Coast with a series with the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angeles. Lets see if the Sox can carry this momentum on the road.
Hats off to Terry Francona, he continues to demonstrate that he is not afraid to jumble the batting order or play the hot hand. Today he batted J.D. Drew Lead-off and dropped Crawford to seventh and the move payed off . Big win today, HUGE actually.
Warning to everyone who thought we were dead, HERE WE COME!!!!!
