Start Jed Lowrie, Start Jed Lowrie !!!!
My new battle cry. I know Terry Francona is going to start Marco Scutaro tonight against C.C. Sabathia. I hope I’m wrong, but I think that is a big mistake. Haven’t you learned by now to play the hot hand and not the percentages?
Yes, Scutaro has a .321 batting average against Sabathia but, that doesn’t matter. None of these Sox are playing up to their lifetime statistics right now. Play the hot hand, throw the percentages out the window, shake this lifeless team up. Playing the percentages isn”t always the answer. You don’t think Joe Girardi wished he left Bartolo Colon in the game Friday instead of bring in lefty Boone Logan to face left handed hitting Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz and J.D. Drew? That faux pas cost the Yankees two runs and put the game out of reach. Why? Colon was mowing the Sox down at the time. Same thing with Lowrie, take his three hits from yesterday and run with it.
Now is not the time to play it safe. In fact if the Sox had enough right handed bats off the bench, I would also sit Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford and J.D. Drew tonight. I’m sure Mike Cameron will start for Drew, but i would probably leave Drew in the lineup tonight and sit Ellsbury. Thats not easy to say when my favorite player on the team is Jacoby.
Whoever Francona sits for Cameron won”t really bother me, but playing Scutaro for Lowrie will.
With all of his health issues behind him, Jed Lowrie proved the end of last year and yesterday that he deserves a shot at being an everyday starter. The Sox seem to be wasting a good talent on the bench in Lowrie. If they were 7-1 and not 1-7 , I would play the percentages but we’re not so you can’t.
Are you listening Mr. Francona? PLAY Jed Lowrie!!!
