Bubba Bell traded to the Indians

Although this may seem like a small deal for the Red Sox, it is still news and by all means not an April Fools joke! Yesterday, the Red Sox traded the Triple A outfielder Bubba Bell to the Cleveland Indians for cash considerations.

There are really only two ways to look at this trade. If you follow the Minor League players frantically as I do, you’ll know it is pretty hard to see an above average player leave. However, was Bubba Bell an above average player? If you think a player is above average while being injury prone then yes, above average is what he is. Bubba Bell is 28 years old, and with the Red Sox and their strong outfield, you might have to be considered outstanding to stay in this system which he is not.

Bubba Bell hit .293 with 6 home runs and 49 rbi’s in 351 at bats last year for Pawtucket. The average is in the high range for a Triple A outfielder, however, the home runs and rbi’s are not exactly impressive.

Bubba Bell was put on the Triple A roster in Cleveland, if Bell can keep his numbers up, continue to show his ability to play with full range in the outfield, and of course stay uninjured he has a chance to play in the majors with the Indians.
