The Minor League Player of the Week is…

There is no doubt this week made it extremely difficult to decide who was going to be our star minor league player. I have resisted the temptation to write another article on Yamaico Navarro and have also resisted a temptation to write about how Marco Scutaro has played like a rookie in these past few appearances. After evaluation and much deliberation I have  found the perfect player for this role. I believe several people are going to be pleased as I announce, I am naming Jose Iglesias as our Minor League Player of the Week!

I am not certain what drew me to Iglesias this week, I suppose the media makes it hard to forget this talented shortstop. Whenever I hear the endless ramblings of how Jose Iglesias is going to be the next best, I think enough about what he will be doing, lets talk about what he has done!

So far this Spring, Iglesias has shown superb talent in the shortstop position. He’s really starting to look like a natural out there! He turns double plays, catches what may seem like the impossible and whenever you see him and his bright red glove no one questions the fact we’re in good hands. In fact if you were to watch a game without knowing the backgrounds of players, you might think Marco Scutaro was the Double A rookie and Iglesias  the everyday shortstop.

Offensively, Iglesias lacks skills. If I were him I’d be hoping for a position called the designated shortstop, there is no doubt he would already be in the majors, and rightfully so! Although the Spring  Training statistics don’t prove my point very well, looking back at past years, Iglesias could use a little help. The thing is, Iglesias has already been accepted as the amazing shortstop will less potential at the plate and for the Red Sox they consider him to be perfect and this week so do I!
