Dustin Pedroia’s Foot is Healed

After a check-up on Dustin Pedroia‘s foot on Wednesday, many people are breathing a little easier. According to Dr. George Theodore, Pedroia’s foot is 99,9% healed and he can finally begin light jogging and some other physical activities. It has been a long road to recovery for Peddy who broke his navicular bone after foul-tipping a ball off his foot on June 25th in San Francisco. This news comes at a great time, because we stand about 2.5-3 months away from the position-player report date in Fort Myers, giving Pedroia plenty of time to slowly get back into a routine and get the strength back in his legs. A healthy Peddy in the Spring has always been the goal, but a healthy and strong Peddy is the perfect scenario for the 2nd baseman.

Pedroia’s numbers speak for themselves as he has emerged as an elite infielder in the MLB since his debut in 2006. He has gone through rough stretches at the plate and in the field, but he is a tough and scrappy player that will continue to fight until the day he is done playing ball. In his 5 years in the game, Peddy is hitting .305 with 228 extra base hits in 2,190 at-bats. In his short career so far, Peddy has a Rookie of the Year Award, an AL MVP Award, a Silver Slugger Award, a gold glove and is a 3-time AL All-Star games. Not to shabby, eh?

The Sox are going to need Peddy in 2011 if they plan on contending in the AL East, so his recovery is a great indicator of good things to come. I can almost feel the Florida heat in February…just about 2.5 months until pitchers and catchers report.
