Sox Make the Trek to Jupiter

The Red Sox are taking their first trip to the East coast of Florida this afternoon to take on the Florida Marlins in Jupiter. We will get to see Tim Wakefield take the mound for his second appearance of the Spring. He will be looking to continue perfection after throwing 2 clean innings against the Twins this past weekend. Offensively, the Red Sox have a prospect heavy lineup to begin today’s game.

Today’s lineup is almost a who’s who of the Red Sox farm system, with the exception of the Sox top 2 prospects, Casey Kelly and Ryan Westmoreland. The outfield will play host to Josh Reddick and Ryan Kalish, both expected to have an impact at the major league level in the future. In the infield we will see the impressive Jose Iglesias at SS and the highly discussed Lars Anderson at 1B.

On the other side of the diamond, the Marlins are starting two former Sox players that were sent to Florida in exchange for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell in the 2005 trade. Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez and SS Hanley Ramirez spent time in the Red Sox farm system and were highly regarded at the time of the trade. The Venezuelan Sanchez is best known for his no-hitter in 2006 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
