After a rough start by Clay Buchholz, the offense came alive in the later innings to squeak out a 5-4 win over AL East foe the Baltimore Orioles. Buchholz pitched 2 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, including a HR to Nick Markakis in the 1st. Buchholz also walked 2 and had 1 K in his first start of the Spring and it was a performance he certainly would like to forget. Casey Kelly continued to impress by throwing 2 shutout innings late in the ballgame and taking home the win.
The Red Sox offense was stagnant for most of the game until the 8th inning, when SS/3B Angel Sanchez ripped a 2-run triple and the next batter, 2B Gil Velazquez, tied the game an RBI single. With 2 outs in the top of the 9th, catching prospect Mark Wagner hit his first Spring Training HR to break the 4-4 tie and put the Sox ahead for good. The win pushes the Red Sox above .500 with a 3-2 record this Spring.
The Red Sox play next at 1:05pm tomorrow at City of Palms Park against the St. Louis Cardinals.
