After a well-pitched 2-1 victory over their Fort Myers rival the Minnesota Twins last night, the Red Sox turn around quickly and are back in action today at 1:05pm in the 2nd round of the Mayor’s Cup race. There are several familiar names in the starting line-up today, including the on-field debut of Mike Cameron. Cameron’s fun-loving personality has made him a fan favorite thus far in Spring Training, taking time out of each workout to sign autographs for fans.
Besides big league regulars Victor Martinez and J.D. Drew, the Sox lineup will be a showcase of a few top prospects in the system. Lars Anderson, Ryan Kalish and Jose Iglesias are considered to be top tier prospects and will get their chance to play start today’s game. Iglesias is coming off an impressive debut against Northeastern, where he hit two balls hard, one resulting in a bases-clearing, 3-run double.
Today will also be our first opportunity to see Jon Lester this Spring. He will be followed by the most tenured Sox player and potential 5th starter, Tim Wakefield. The contrast in styles will be tough for hitters to adjust to and something we may see this season if Wakefield ends up pitching out of the ‘pen. Starting for the Twin’s will be New England native Carl Pavano.
