Lester & Company Provided The Pitching….

For the Boston Red Sox having the lefty Jon Lester on the mound was just what the club needed.  Plus it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Red Sox, as Lester helped snap their two game losing streak.  With a 6-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox, this afternoon.  His performance on the mound was priceless as he dominated the White Sox hitters the entire game.  He gave Boston exactly what was needed as he gave the Sox seven strong innings, while only allowing four hits.

Lester provided the Sox with a great pitching performance which they desperately needed.  As it allowed the Sox bullpen a chance to get some much needed rest.  Since he went deep into the game which is something the Sox starters haven’t been doing of late.  After striking out 8 and only allowing 2 walks in his 7 strong innings.  It was time to call it a day and time for the bullpen arms to finish the job he started.

Thanks to the solid relief pitching by Billy Wagner, Daniel Bard and closer Jonathan Papelbon.  Boston grabbed a much needed “W” in this 4 game series with Chicago.  After Lester & Company provided the pitching it was time for the offense, to do their thing.  An offense that recently has been struggling at the plate, to jump start themselves and start producing some runs.  Which they finally did as the offense tacked up 6 runs and 10 hits en route to the teams 79th victory.  As they used the home run balls provided by Mike Lowell and Victor Martinez for the majority of the clubs scoring.

Lowell went deep in the top of the fourth with a runner on base off Chicago’s starter John Danks, for his 17th HR of the season.  Which gave the Red Sox their first lead in this series at 2-0.  After tacking on another run in the fifth, the Sox waited till the top of the ninth to strike again.  This time it was Sox catcher Martinez going yard.  As he went “deep” for the 21st HR of the season with two men on to close out the game and the scoring.

This victory means so much for Boston at the moment as all the teams who are currently chasing Boston for the AL Wild Card, all lost.  That’s correct folks you read that correctly they ALL LOST.  Meaning the Sox just gained a game on the Rangers, Rays, Mariners, Twins and the White Sox for the wild card spot.  Making things even brighter for all of Red Sox Nation, is the fact that the Yankees also lost.  Now with the combination of the Sox win and the Yankees losing, we’re currently only 7.5 games back in the AL East.
