The Boston Red Sox were rolling along without a care in the world. As they were winners in 7 of their last 8 games, until the tides changes on Thursday. Since then they’ve lost 2 straight to the Florida Marlins and the Atlanta Braves. And while losing two straight the Sox have looked down right horrible and lifeless on the offensive side of the game. As they’ve only managed a grand total of three runs and three hits over the last two games.
It looks like the Sox and all the luck they had changed just when the flood gates literally opened up from the heavens on Thursday. Granted Thursday night’s game was called after only five full innings had been played due to the rain. But still, how in the world do you manage only 1 hit and 1 run versus a pitcher (Ricky Nolasco) that’s stuggled all season. Nolasco was so horrible on the mound earlier this season, that a few weeks back the Marlins shipped his butt down to the minors.
Whatever the minors did for Nolasco surely must have worked since the Sox and their hitters just couldn’t figure the guy out. OK, maybe the weather played a part in it also, it was a straight downpour pretty much the entire game. But still the guy looked sharp from what I was able to see from highlights. As the only bad pitch he threw the entire game was the one that Kevin Youkilis sent sailing into the Green Monster. The home run by Youkilis in the first inning of the game turned out to be the only hit on the night for the Boston line-up.
It’s really hard to win a game when one you’re not hitting the ball, and two you’re not getting guys on base (Sox only had 3 men reach)!
