Why The Interest You Might Be Asking?

The Boston Red Sox were enjoying their first day off in awhile (2 weeks) and watching some baseball.  The Sox had their sights set on the AL East leading New York Yankees, who were in action wrapping up their four game series with the Cleveland Indians on Monday.  Why the interest you might be asking?  The Sox who entered the day a half game back  had a chance to reclaim first place, with a Yankees lost.  Hey, it might of only been a tie for first, but it’s still first in the division.

Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be for the Sox and their fans on this day, as the Yankees held off the Indians for a 5-2 victory.  So with their victory, combined with an off day for Boston, the Yanks now sit a top the AL East with a nice one game cushion in the standings.  As the Yankees prepare to open up a three game series with the Rangers at home.  Boston is finishing up their 10 game road trip in Detroit with the Tigers, before heading home.

Which all leads us up to the HUGE three game showdown between these teams next week.  As one of the biggest rivalries in all of sports resumes in Fenway Park, beginning on Tuesday the 9th of June.  It will mark the 6th, 7th and 8th meetings between the Yankees and Sox in 2009.  Which have all been won by Boston, as they hold the season edge at the moment 5-0 over New York!
