4-2 Record On The Homestand!

With their 12-5 victory on Sunday, the Boston Red Sox finished with a 4-2 record on the homestand!  In this brief stop at Fenway which was only 6 games against the Toronto Blue Jays (3-0) and the New York Mets (1-2) the Sox regained first place in the AL East.  It might only be a half game lead in the division but it’s a lead none the less.  With it also being Memorial Day weekend, anyone who knows anything about baseball can tell you what that means.  Teams in first place at this time of the year generally end the season the same way.

This is the last time the Sox will see the friendly confines of home until the 5thof June, when they return home for a series with the AL West leading Texas Rangers.  The Sox left Boston after their victory this afternoon for a 3 city, 10 game road trip that begins with the Minnesota Twins for four games on Monday.  After the series with the Twins, it’s off to Canada and a date with the Blue Jays for three games, before wrapping the long trip up with the Detroit Tigers.

The Sox who have the second best record in the American League at 26-18, also own the best AL home record at 17-6 on the year.  Now on the road it’s a completely different story for the Red Sox as they have the seventh worst record amongst the AL teams at 9-12.  So with a critical 10 game road trip they need to find a way to win close games on the road, otherwise at the trip’s end they’ll find themselves looking up at the rest of out the East teams.
