Quick In Game Update – Sox & Yanks!
I just stopped by to give everyone a quick in game update on the action up to this point. Let’s start off this way, if you remove or forget the bottom of the fifth inning it’s been a great evening for the Boston Red Sox and pitcher Jon Lester. The Sox at the moment have the lead over the New York Yankees 6-3 with the action just headed into the bottom of the seventh. The Red Sox offense has been powered in part by home-runs off the bats of Mike Lowell (2nd inning) and Jason Bay (7th inning) with David Ortiz contributing a pair of doubles for the Sox. On the mound if you minus that rough fifth inning, Lester has been near perfection as he’s fanned 10 on the night, to go along with only two walks.
Some Key Moments in the Game:
- Lowell hits his 6th HR of the season in the second inning
- Phil Hughes exiled to the showers early as the Sox hit him up for 4 runs in the first 4 innings
- Yankees skipper Joe Girardi tossed for arguing balls and strikes in the 5th inning
- Lester allows his only runs of the night on back to back home runs to Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira in the 5th inning
- Jason Bay adds to the Sox 6-3 with his 6th HR of the season
- Kevin Youkilis leaves game in the 6th due to ribcage/back injury
- Teixeira knocks his 2nd HR on the game in the 8th, Sox now up 6-4
Well that’s all for the moment I need to get back and finish watching this game as the Sox have just brought their closer Jonathan Papelbon into the game with only 1 out in the 8th. Let’s go Sox we can do this! Oh wait nice “K” by Paps we have two outs now!
