Have a Very Red Soxian New Year

After a decidedly pedestrian 2012 season it’s time to wax poetic. Since imploding shortly after the All-Star break, the Sox have been dragged through the ditch for months. Now is the time to pull for the Old Towne Team as they make some of their final moves before pitchers and catchers report on February 12. Just saying that makes me feel the Florida sun. Enjoy your New Year.

Father time waits for no one
competition’s a beast
And losing’s no fun
in the tough AL East

Sox rested on laurels
in the year twenty twelve
Team funk led to quarrels
and the season was shelved

They had a new skipper
to turn things around
More suited for slippers
he scuffed out of town

Ellsbury broke
once again it came true
Fragility spoke
and his season was screwed

Papi’s heel of Achilles
crapped out on him too
It gave us the willies,
a boot not a shoe?

An outcry arose
in the Nation so loud
“Dispense of our woes,
once again make us proud!”

Clear out all wood
that’s decayed and is dead
Find a sucker for good
So they found Magic’s bread

Ben then went to work
with great vigor and verve
Nay did he not shirk
But more likely with nerve

Set about on a mission
to retool the team
Like nuclear fission
He ignited his dream

Get just the right players
to fit the machine
With smarts and some prayers
a twenty thirteen

Much better than last year’s
with a new cast in tow
New coaches and peers
lined up in a row

Farrell and crew
poised to look forward
Will Ben stage a coup,
proposition straightforward?

It’s up in the air
Hope does spring eternal
A turnaround rare
or last place infernal?
