Sox Offense Pounds, Doubront Controls Mound. Boston Beats Miami 15-5.

After 67 games of powerful struggling it was about as satisfying as it gets to watch the Red Sox get out the ugly stick and beat the Miami Marlins senseless Wednesday night at Fenway Park. Boston had it all going on. It got so bad for Miami that catcher John Buck, batting .168, smacked a homer in the top of the 7th to make it 13-5 Boston and either strained his hamstring on the swing recoil or cramped up from the heat and barely made it around the base paths to notch the run. One thing is for certain. Boston has had Miami’s number in 2012.

Boston kicked out the jams out of the offensive doors, cranking out 16 hits and eventually winning the game 15-5, one of only a handful of laughers that Boston has been involved in this year and certainly one of the only ones in which they were doing the laughing.

David Ortiz hit a grand slam, Mike Aviles a three-run shot, Will Middlebrooks a two-run homer and Jarrod Saltalamacchia a solo homer to pace the Boston attack. Daniel Nava went 4-5 and scored two runs. With the exception of Kelly Shoppach and Darnell McDonald, who were late replacements for Salty and Cody Ross respectively, everyone in the Red Sox lineup got a hit.

Felix Doubront pitched six innings of good enough baseball, giving up four runs, striking out four and walking none to move his record to 8-3. Clayton Mortensen (1 home run allowed) and Mark Melancon mopped up to close out the fish.

With the win Boston moved out of the cellar, 1/2 game ahead of the Blue Jays and six games behind the first place Yankees who cooled off again today by losing their second in a row after winning nine in a row prior to that.

The Sox and Marlins wrap up the series tomorrow night at 7:10 before the Braves come to town for a three-game set over the weekend and mercifully bring inter-league play to a close.
