Red Sox Trade Rumors: Kevin Youkilis Officially On the Trading Block

facebooktwitterreddit

While it should not come as a big surprise, the Red Sox are informing teams that they intend to trade Kevin Youkilis according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com via Twitter.   The idea of trading Youk has been discussed and analyzed here at BSI for months and most recently Earl looked at potential trade partners for Youkilis.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported yesterday that there were three known NL teams that have interest in Youkilis which include the Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Giants.  This is the best case scenario for the Red Sox given that neither of the confirmed interested parties reside in the American League where Youkilis could potentially hurt his former club.

It’s hard to imagine the Red Sox getting a bonified starting pitcher in return for Youkilis given his inability to stay healthy as of late.  The whole key to moving him is conditioned on whether he can remain in the lineup for an extended period of time and avoid another trip to the DL thanks to his body breaking down.  A bullpen piece could be a target for the Red Sox given the lack of starters that appear to be readily available in Youkilis’ area of value.

In 107 plate appearances, Youkilis has a line of .250/.318/.406/.724 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI.  Hardly the Youkilis type numbers that we’ve seen in the past as a result of a slow start and the most recent DL stint.

This one is just getting warmed up and we’ll have you covered on any breaking news, rumors or trade chatter, right here at BSI.
