Daniel Nava-Underdog Extraordinaire

On a team with so many unlikable characters, what a breath of fresh air to see a player of Daniel Nava’s stature in town.  I don’t know about you but the player’s like Nava are one of the main reasons I love the game of baseball.  Daniel Nava, the truest definition of an underdog that you can find.   So instead of getting angry and disgusted the next two nights as the two most petulant and boorish players on this team, Jon Lester and Josh Beckett take the mound.  Focus your attention on Daniel Nava or Will Middlebrooks.  The feel good stories of 2012.

How can you not like Nava?  The man who made the grandest entrance I have ever watched start his career.   On June 12, 2010, Nava hit the first pitch he saw from Phillies pitcher, Joe Blanton and blasted a grand slam.  That is Nava’s one and only home run in the major leagues.  Since 2010, Nava has spent all his playing time in the minor leagues and this year he wasn’t even invited to attend spring training.  In fact, Nava wasn’t even on the team’s minor league roster when the season started.  Most players may have given up by now, but not Nava.  He believes what no one else does, he is a major league ball player.

Nava was recalled when Darnell McDonald went on the DL.  Nava has reached base safely 12 of his 16 at bats.  He is hitting, fielding and stealing bases.  He has shown life on a seemingly lifeless team.

With Dustin Pedroia heating up and Middlebrooks still producing.  You can start looking past the malcontents of Beckett, Lester, Kevin Youkilis and Adrian Gonzalez and enjoy watching this team again.

I for one would rather lose with players like Nava on the team than to win with the Beckett’s of the world.  Do us all a favor Beckett, why don’t you and all of your overblown ego followers go away and leave us the true heart and souls of this team.   Carl Crawford?  Who cares, right now I will take Daniel Nava any day of the week.
