Kevin Youkilis Slams Red Sox To Victory

The Red Sox stretched their winning streak to four games with an impressive 10-3 victory over the White Sox at U.S Cellular Field on Thursday.  The long ball again paved the way on this night, more specifically Kevin Youkilis who hit a grand slam in the top of the third on an 0-1 count off perfect game hurler, Philip Humber.  Not to be outdone Jarrod Saltalamacchia made it back to back shots by ripping a solo bomb to right making it a 7-1 game.

The White Sox would cut the lead by two in the bottom of the fourth with an A.J. Pierzynski RBI single followed by a Dayan Viciedo solo home run but Salty would restore the six run cushion with his second round trip of the night, scoring Youkilis. Ryan Sweeney would score Mike “Pimping” Aviles in the ninth on a single capping off a 12-hit night for the Sox offense.

Felix Doubront took the mound for the Sox on this night and again proved he belongs in the rotation with another solid outing, picking up his first win of the season.  The lefty went six innings, giving up 3 earned runs on five hits, walking 3 and fanning 2.

Junichi Tazawa continued his streak of scoreless relief innings, working in the last three frames, allowing two hits, striking out four and hitting one batter. He has now pitched in six innings this season without giving up a run.

In total, the White Sox collected seven hits off Red Sox pitching on a night that Doubront and Tazawa were sharp, silencing some of the big lumber that the White Sox possess.

I don’t know what was more entertaining, the game itself or Jerry and Don discussing the gloves that Orsillo was wearing and dissecting his wardrobe.  On a chilly night in Chicago, the Red Sox turned up the heat and kept the streak going taking the first of four.  Here’s to hoping the Beantown boys can keep it rolling on Friday when Daniel Bard continues his quest to stay in the rotation when he takes on John Danks.  Game time is 6:10 CST.
