Roy Oswalt Decision Expected Soon. Red Sox an Option?

One of the most prolific free agent pitchers this off season is still unemployed. Roy Oswalt has seen multiple offers thrown at him from clubs pleading for his services, but the crafty veteran is taking his sweet time, hoping for the team that he wants to pitch for will eventually come around and offer him the contract he’s hoping for.

So far, that hasn’t happened yet and now with pitchers and catchers going through their exercises all across Major League Baseball, Roy Oswalt may be ready to make a decision on where he intends to play next year.

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN via Twitter, Oswalt could make his decision as early as Thursday this week. The problem is, no one really knows which team Oswalt is leaning towards except for, well Roy Oswalt.

The Rangers and Cardinals are two teams that Oswalt wants to pitch for but neither team has cleared salary for him. The Cardinals have said in the past that they would sign the former Astros ace, but on their terms. That was believed to be an offer of $5 million for one year. Nothing further has been confirmed if that offer or any other is still on the table.

The Red Sox could be in the hunt here. Oswalt made it clear that he wants to pitch close to his Mississippi home, but he may be out of options, leaving Boston as a default fall-back team. He would look pretty damn sweet in a Sox uniform and would solidify a rotation with some much needed poise and presence.

Now all we have to do is hurry up and wait for the decision to be made and the announcement to be made public. We’ve waited this long, what’s another day or so.
