Red Sox are favorites to land Cody Ross. Decision expected today

The Boston Red Sox are rumored to be the front runners in what has become a thinning market for free-agent outfielder, Cody Ross.  Multiple sources have tweeted that the Red Sox are interested in the former San Francisco Giants outfielder and earlier today Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News tweeted that a decision is expected today as to where Ross will end up.

The latest from Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the former NLCS MVP is expected to sign with the Red Sox after the New York Mets decided against spending more than $1 million for Ross’s services.  Originally, Ross was said to be seeking a two-year deal worth $5-6 million per season.

The Atlanta Braves were said to be in on Ross but have since pulled out of the running according to David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Ross would be a welcomed addition for the Red Sox who can offer more attractive options for Ross than some of the other potential bidders.  While money is usually the most important factor, a hitter friendly ballpark such as Fenway Park that suits Ross’s batting regime could play into where he decides to sign.

We’ll be sure to follow this situation closely as it continues to unfold so check back for the updates.
